What we offer the local community

The Chaplaincy Manchester Airport has been established at the Airport since 1980. Part of the Chaplaincy’s role is to develop and assist good relations between the Airport and local communities, to share in the development of relationships with people of all other faiths and ethnic groups, with a commitment to ecumenical activity and co-operation.

The Chaplaincy also seeks to develop understanding of the economic life of the community within and beyond the Airport and to develop and promote the connection between faith and social and economic affairs.

Chaplains attend regular meetings and conferences both in and beyond the airport environment and seek to play a full part in the activities of Greater Manchester Industrial Mission Team and the British Isles and Ireland Network of the International Association of Civil Aviation Chaplains.

Chaplains are also available for speaking engagements (Hyperlink to Keep in Touch/Find out More) about the role of an airport Chaplain and make themselves available, whenever possible, for church services in the surrounding community. We are also delighted to welcome community groups to the airport (Hyperlink to Keep in Touch/Find out More) to see for themselves what airport chaplaincy is like.

It became a Registered Charitable Company in 1997. (Company No 3664008 Charity No 1074781).

The Chaplaincy Manchester Airport provides a service which includes, but is not limited to:

  • Liaising with local churches and faith communities, especially in relation to issues that affect them particularly.
  • Offering regular publicised services of worship
  • the provision and management of Multi-faith prayer rooms for public use and more private Quiet rooms for pastoral care.
  • training in faith-related aspects of emergency response, diversity issues and pastoral care, not only in relation to the airport, but working in partnership with local authorities, voluntary agencies and Greater Manchester Police.
  • care and support for those travelling on pilgrimage and their families.
  • pastoral care for staff and detainees at Pennine House Immigration Detention Centre.
  • Providing Chaplains to speak to local community groups about the life of the airport and the work of the chaplaincy
  • By arrangement, we are delighted to welcome faith groups to the airport, to give an introduction to the life of the airport and the work of the chaplaincy
  • an assurance that all matters are treated with professionalism and in compete confidence.

Chaplains are delighted to assist you in planning a wedding or a service of prayer and dedication following a civil marriage.

We are also happy to help those wanting to explore or deepen their own religious faith, and to prepare you for baptism or confirmation or to direct you towards others who might assist you.

We are also available to assist you in times of bereavement, in planning a funeral, memorial service, or the committal of cremated remains - either in your own local community, or at the airport.
